What is Acupuncture?
There are two categories of acupuncture, Traditional Chinese acupuncture and Western acupuncture. While Western acupuncture follows the basic principles of Traditional Chinese acupuncture, the use of acupuncture in physiotherapy is different from Traditional acupuncture and is used to facilitate healing by stimulating the nervous system and addressing imbalances.
Studies have shown that acupuncture can help modulate pain and assist the bodies healing process, making acupuncture a beneficial addition to your physiotherapy session. If you are unsure if acupuncture is right for you, our Edmonton Physiotherapists can walk you through it.
What is Dry Needling?
Trigger point dry needling involves the use of a thin needle to target myofascial trigger points, which are hyperirritable spots in skeletal muscle. These are often described as having a “knot” in your muscle, and can cause pain, discomfort and reduced range of motion.
Using the needle, your physiotherapist will target these myofascial trigger points in order to cause a local twitch response, which may be felt by the patient and observed by the physiotherapist. Dry needling can create positive benefits in a short amount of time and can be a great addition to your treatment plan.
Our highly trained and experienced Edmonton Physiotherapists can let you know if dry needling is right for you.

Get comprehensive concussion management for a safe recovery.
Concussions are caused by an impact or significant trauma involving the head and neck, resulting in brain injury. Typically they result in a rapid onset of short-term neurological symptoms immediately after the impact.
Symptoms such as headache, brain fog, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, or emotional changes are common with concussion. Balance impairment, behavioral changes, cognitive impairments, loss of consciousness, and sleep/wake disturbances are also associated with concussion and should be discussed with your physiotherapist.
Concussion treatment begins with a detailed assessment, involving a symptom assessment, cognitive screen, balance assessment, and neurological screen.
Treatment begins with rest and acute symptom management, followed by a gradual return to activity.
Working with a physiotherapist is important for managing symptoms and ensuring you return to activity appropriately and gradually.
